James Wathey

Head of Payroll

James is the Head of Payroll here at Cottons Chartered Accountants. He is predominantly based in Nottinghamshire but also travels across the East Midlands to oversee work in our offices. James has 11+ years of payroll experience including working for Haines Watts and Fortus Accountancy firms as Payroll Manager, in addition to other payroll related roles in both industry and practice before joining Cottons. His responsibilities include overseeing the payroll department; payroll staff and circa 1000 client payrolls for which Cottons provides a full end to end service, dealing with HMRC, operating client pension schemes, CIS schemes in addition to many other tasks.

He firmly believes payroll plays a vital role in the Accountancy industry, especially for companies where employees require PAYE payments and that our team is adept in taking on even the most challenging scenarios and calculations in order to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time. He is also a full member of the CIPP and holds a number of payroll related qualifications.
In his spare time he enjoys running and travelling the world.
